Dermaplaning
Does Dermaplaning hurt?
Dermaplaning should be not considered painful. The sensation experienced during dermaplaning is often described as a gentle scraping sensation. There are risks of cuts on the skin, however they are small and very minor as the pressure used for dermaplaning cannot cause a deep cut. These nicks and scrapes will heal within 24-48 hours.
Will the hair grow back thicker and darker?
No, dermaplaning does not cause hair to grow back thicker or darker. Dermaplaning is a method of physical exfoliation that removes the outermost layer of dead skin cells and vellus hair (commonly known as “peach fuzz”) from the face using a sterile surgical scalpel. This process does not affect the hair follicles or the hair growth cycle, so the hair will grow back at the same rate and texture as before.
How often can I have this treatment?
The frequency of dermaplaning treatments can vary depending on factors such as the individual’s skin type and condition. In general, most people can safely undergo dermaplaning treatments every 4 to 6 weeks.
Am I suitable for Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is generally considered safe for most people, but there are some contraindications and precautions to consider:
1. Active acne: Dermaplaning can exacerbate active acne by spreading bacteria and causing further inflammation. It’s generally recommended to avoid dermaplaning if you have active acne.
2. Inflamed skin: Dermaplaning can irritate inflamed or sensitive skin, so it’s generally recommended to avoid dermaplaning if you have inflamed or sensitive skin.
3. Certain skin conditions: Dermaplaning may not be suitable for people with certain skin conditions, such as rosacea, eczema, or psoriasis, as it can exacerbate these conditions.
4. Recent sunburn: Dermaplaning can irritate sunburned skin, so it’s generally recommended to avoid dermaplaning if you have a recent sunburn.
5. Recent facial surgery or procedures: Dermaplaning can interfere with the healing process after facial surgery or procedures.
6. Allergies & Medication: If you suffer with an allergy to stainless steel or have used Isotretinoin (e.g. Roaccutane) in the past 6 months.
