Dermal Filler Dissolving

Dissolving facial dermal filler is a procedure that involves the use of an enzyme called hyaluronidase to break down and dissolve hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers. This enzyme naturally in occurs in our skin but can be injected at higher concentrations to rapidly remove unwanted hyaluronic acid-based fillers. This non-surgical procedure is typically performed when a patient is dissatisfied with the results of their filler treatment or experiences complications such as overfilling, asymmetry, migration or lumps. Hyaluronidase works by breaking down the hyaluronic acid molecules in the filler, allowing the body to naturally absorb and eliminate the filler over time. Patients can expect to see a reduction in the volume and appearance of the filler within a few days once swelling has settled.

A patch test is required at the appointment to determine suitability. A small amount of the product is injected into the forearm to test for potential allergies or reactions to the concentrated enzyme. A minimum of 2 weeks is required between dissolving and refill appointments.
